BIOGRAPHY:
Moguls skier Landon Gardner started skiing when, of all things, a new third-grade classmate moved from New Jersey to Montana; they took lessons together and then joined the Missoula Freestyle Team. Since, then, Landon's speed through the bumps and aggressive style have shown coaches he could be headed for some major success. Gardner’s coaches say he has the skill to be at the top of the competitor’s food chain, especially with his cork 720 truck-driver, a true crowd pleaser. After his best season to date in 2009, Gardner battled injury in the early goings of the 2010 season and took himself out of competition. He's thus taken the last two seasons off after getting two surgeries, but is looking to get back in the game in 2012.
LANDON SAYS:
I spent the entire winter coaching for the Missoula Freestyle Ski Team: the program in which I grew up. It gave me a chance to have ample rest as I had ACL surgery in January of 2010. It was the raddest winter, sooooo much snow and a blast. I'm focusing on getting back to competitive skiing, making small short-term goals and focusing on the finer technical aspects of my skiing.
FIRST TRACKS:
Gardner started skiing in the third grade, moving onto the Missoula Freestyle Team. He was a dominating moguls skier at Western Regional events - six moguls wins and three more in duals, five other moguls podiums and two in duals in 2004 - before moving into NorAms and the U.S. Ski Team orbit with the 2005 season. He broke into the World Cup that season with a top-10 finish in 2005.
OFF THE SNOW:
In the summer Landon will either be on his road or mountain bike, fly fishing, golfing at the lake or hanging with friends
